I woke up at 4am, bathed and took a taxi to The Padang and it costed me $21.30!
Yo and I shared the cost of the cab fare which wasn't that bad. The Army Half-Marathon and the Marina Bay Run was held there; starting at the Esplanade Bridge and ending at the Padang.
The first 10km was nothing. The next 4km was fun. The next 4km was tiring. The last 3km I ran on pure adrenaline. The route was, start at Esplanade Bridge, ran through Raffles, went out to the ECP, they closed 2 lanes on the expressway for the run, climbed Benjamin Sheares Bridge, down to Fort Road, down to East Coast Park Carpark C3 which was 10.5km turning point, back down to City, went past the Scenic Combat Engineers Trail to the newly-built Marina Barrage, past Marina South, and back to the Padang.
If there was one word to describe it, DBS. Damn Bloody Shiong.
My run timing was 3 hours and 15 minutes; which means I don't get the 3 days off!!!!! GAHHHHH!!!!!!!!! I was 30 minutes late. That's because I ran alongside the Commanding Officer of Supply Hub East, LTC Koh at the 14km mark. I had a hard time keeping his walking pace. Reason being, his 1 step is equivalent to 3 - 4 steps of mine. But I paced him, eventually jogging to keep up. My socks and my shoes were squishing thanks to the muddy track and the ever gross Padang. The field was very, very muddy!!! GURH. It felt like stepping on shit.
At 16km mark, I had abrasion in between the thighs so now I have to walk like penguin. And its not just me, if I look like a penguin, then the whole bunch of us makes us look like a company of penguins. At the finish line, I managed to get myself 'drunk' drinking bottled water and 100 Plus. My muscles felt very sore by then I thought they were going to burst.
I took the cab home which costed me half the fare and sharing with Yo again. The cabby was telling his experience and all in the Army back in the 1980s. Quite interesting and I kept talking to him but Yo fell asleep. LOL.
The moment I reached home, I took off my shoes, socks, went to the toilet and get wet, and off to sleep! I think I lost weight too.
Experience of a lifetime! Whew. No pictures though, I didn't bring my camera handphone.
I think, never will I run 21km again; at one go. The feeling is insane!
Note to self: I must read more books to improve my writing skills. Somehow, ever since of enlisting in the Army, I noticed my English is somewhat limited and I write like a 15-year-old.

She's Hot But She's Not
I want to find a girl who's complex. Maybe I've changed. It used to be, a simple-minded girl who strives her best to live out her life.
I want a challenge. I need a challenge, someone who is really worth the effort.
And yet exudes the style and charm. What are my choices really? I don't think I have a liking for Singaporean girls. They're too......... not complex enough. But then again, what are my choices eh.
Okay, I have this sudden urge to just sleep. BYE!

Cheerry Day
Today, I'm having off! Finally, time to relax and take a breather from work.
I've still got 1 day of off day from National Day and 1 more day for the upcoming Army Half-Marathon happening this coming Sunday. We don't get much of off day compared to other vocations, so we try to grab whatever 'sai kang' work we can do.
This is the reality of my line of work.
So in any case, I met 'Little-Miss-Cherry' to get the keychain that I was supposed to take not-very-long-ago (since March. *cough*). It's a cute one. I think she's getting prettier too! ha ha ha ha. But its just me. Compliments courtesy of myself.
mes compliments s’il vous plaît.
(sounds so cheem but then it means my compliments to you. i doubt my french is bad so there.)
And I like collecting keychains. Its just a like thing, not very hardcore. Oh and bookmarks! Is it because I used to read alot? I used to read many books when I'm still in secondary school. Bookworm? No lah, BookBird. Worm sounds so wrong can? I wonder who came up with such words.
Since I'm driving, I left Temasek Polytechnic and went to fetch my sister from school.
The fact is that my stomach is feeling very queasy since morning. It had the urge of expunging my breakfast upon leaving TP. And currently as I'm typing this, its still growling and churning. I hastily parked the car at a lot on B1 and walked briskly to my block and upon entering the house, I swung both my bags to the floor and got undressed in my uniform and boots within 20 seconds. (I counted. schwing!!) The rest is pure exhilarating.
There is no other thing that comes close when you're relieving yourself in an emergency.
That said, I'm going to sleep soon to recover my sanity after last week's onslaught of chocolate indulgence at Fullerton, Neon Outing and Yayasan Mendaki Graduate's Tea at Suntec Convention. I'll get to that most probably in the next post.
Until then. Adios!!!

Hot Weather Programme
Its been 3 weeks since the hot weather programme started for the year. I find it strange though; it shouldn't be really that hot at this time of the year.
I have this throbbing pain at the back of my head since morning so it was quite obvious I was quite moody today. I didn't really had much thought for the day but I went through.
Maybe I will have a long holiday in October when the puasa month finishes. I also plan to go fishing in October. Once I get my fishing rod back up. I have about 11 days leave and 2 days of off to clear by year end.
Oh, me and my NS buddies are planning a trip to Bangkok at the end of the year. We're going off backpacking!! woohooo!
About 8 of us hopefully.
Me, Sudiani, Fadhlullah, Thomas, Fang Tao, Sharil, Firdaus and Poon Yan.
On poking fun at the on-going Beijing Olympics, the whole lot of us were watching the 200m women's semifinal 1 the other day, and the British came in first in the heats. Out of randomness, Fang Tao claimed, "The British could swim so well, that's why they ended up in an island!"
The laughter was priceless I tell you. Out of nowhere, we burst out laughing.
The whole day, sometimes, we watched the Beijing Olympics. From women's weightlifting, to synchronised diving to aesthetic gymnastics to swimming to women's hockey to table tennis to badminton.
Its inevitable since our camp, "Bo cheng hu". No government. So we 'hoo-ray, hoo-ray'. If you get my gist.
I need some rest. Really. Standing out in the sun for 4 hours is really a killer. I'm not tan anymore in fact. I'm burnt and black! Overcooked. We're like slow-cooking ourselves out in the sun. We're feeling the heat man! Not really funny when we're just really standing out and see people just laughing at us because they work in the aircon and we don't.
Sometimes people ask us, why not stand in the shade?
We reply, it is our duty to protect the camp and we do it with hardwork, dedication and foremostly, PRIDE.
I wrote on the board for everyone to read, "I will overcome adversity with my fighting spirit."
atsui na!!!!!! atsui atsui atsui!! ii janai yo!! hontou ni atsui!!

Post NDP Debriefing
I spent most of today recovering back my sanity (a.k.a sleeping) in preparation for work this coming week.
Marcus was kind enough to send me and Chee Wei to Sengkang in his Volvo. Really a nice and spacious car with lots of power. 2.6 litres.
Initially we had wanted to share a cab back and he was staying at Bedok. We took 27 instead back to Tampines and I trudged my way back home on foot. For once I had felt again that fatigue. The feeling I last felt when I was still a Trainee at the School of Infantry Specialists.
I clearly remembered one of our instructors saying, "As long as you have not fainted, or you're not dead yet, I don't want to see any of you fall out! Understood?!"
As newly promoted Privates from Basic Military Training Centre, we were somewhat afraid of what might happen if we didn't do what we were supposed to do.
The most tired, most fittest time of a soldier's life could be found in SISPEC. 3 months training to be a Corporal. gahhh~
What most soldiers take to train for 2 years, we are trained within 10 weeks.
And the stories go on and on. That's what I like about combat. Tired because of training, but when I think back, its funny and most women like hearing Army stories. haha! =P
Oh, and about doing duty on our National Day. The fireworks looked so nice!
この花火はきれいな。
I've always liked fireworks. =)
It reminds me of a someone and how colourful the sky can be when its filled with fireworks.

My Country, My Home

First things first, it's Yoko's birthday today! I believe its her 22nd. It comes naturally with time.
Anyway, in about 2 hours time, I would be out of my house and on the way back to camp for duty. Guard duty as you might've guessed.
Not easy to get guard duty on a National Day but well, I'm doing my service, so there, no complaints. Basically then, we are the unsung heroes.
Yesterday, I was selected to be part of my Unit's NDP Observance Parade as one of the flag party escort. With our rifles, we marched smartly to the flagpole and 'hormat senjata' while the flag is going up. It brings back memories of my childhood days on hearing the National Anthem.
It was a memorable moment. For me at least.
I love my country. You know?
Its part of being the soldier psyche. We do whatever we am supposed to do. And our job is to protect against external as well as internal threats.
But for now at least, I hope it'll be a peaceful night. I'm not coming home tonight because I'm serving my country.
Happy 43rd Birthday, Singapore. =)

Report Alpha-Kilo
Nothing to report. What else is new eh?
How many days have it been since I last logged in to the computer? Probably 3 days.
I'd have to guess it wouldn't take very long before I'm just too tired to bathe.
Well, there's bad news and there's even more bad news.
Bad news first. I have lesser and lesser time to sleep.
The even more bad news, I'll be doing duty at my camp on the 9th of August.
Its called, 'Serving My Country With Pride'.
I love my country, I am a patriot. Lest those who governed this country has ruined it somehow.
So for all of you who is going and will enjoy the fireworks display, please don't forget the men and women behind protecting the peace of our homeland.
Other than the 2 days off I've yet to clear, I'm going to stay at home and sleep like a babi (I would've known pigs don't sleep all day) on the weekdays and I'm going to Fullerton Hotel for the chocolate buffet again the next weekend with not 1, not 2 but 3 (spelt three) lovely ladies!!
SCORE! 3 dates at once. oooooooo....... mmmmmm...........
They just couldn't resist my charms but I beg to differ. The bill's on me and I have to get a car. (James Bond anyone?)
Alright, time to sleep. I've still got to prepare tomorrow's stuff. So technically, good night people!
