i seriously need something to munch.
well, its all in a day's work. i just started back working at Hyatt's room service last Monday. though not exactly what i had hoped for. there's some new staff. i'm not really what their names are though. it comes and goes.
the time when i had a gastric flu attack, during that morning, i was waiting impatiently for my dad to pick me up to see the doctor. so i sat at the void deck's stone table and waited. and waited and waited. until this fragile aged man came up to me and said, 'Do you live in this block?'.
i was astounded by his appearance and said, 'Yeah, well, i live on the 2nd floor. and you?'
at that time i felt that i had lost hope. really. i had breathlessness. and a numb pain on the left side of my chest whenever i take my breath. i just wanted to let it go and tell my heart to stop, that's it.... ya know.
but this man, of sixty over years as though indirectly saying to me, 'Young man, you have a long way to go. be the best that you can be. be strong.'
he gave me that glint of hope.
the old man continued, 'when i was young, a doctor told me once i had a disease and could only live up to 30 years old.'
'but look at me now!!! i'm sixty years old already!!', he continued.
'i went back to my doctor and said, "Well, what have you got to say? i have lived way past your expected age." '.
and you know where he had worked in the past 30 years?
he worked as a clerk in the Prime Minister's Office when Lee Kuan Yew still had the post.
amazing isn't it?
that man, has no children. he lives alone. but, he has my utmost respect. a truly inspiring person.
after when my dad arrived, i never saw that old man again. i'm not sure, he's around. just maybe i didn't see him. since then, whenever i'm feeling down or losing hope, i will always remember, this is the day that will change my life forever. this is the day, when God sent me this tiny little thing called hope.
'but' is not a word my friend.
